We
continue to support students’ reading progress and instill their love for
reading with the Reading Renaissance incentive program. This initiative
has produced very positive results in student achievement at the individual and
class levels as well as across the core content areas. Students that read well
generally excel in all areas of the curriculum because of their ability to
predict, conceptualize, and analyze.
Key components of Reading Renaissance are as follows:
-
Daily
TWI Time (Teachers read to and with students each day to emphasize the
importance of reading for information and pleasure.)
-
An
Individual Reading Goal is established for each student based on his/her
independent reading range.
-
A
Student Reading Log is kept as a running record of reading progress.
-
Individual Reading Progress is monitored each week through student
conferences, reading log checks, Accelerated Reader and STAR
assessments, periodic fluency tests, and unit tests following reading and
content area instruction.
-
Differentiated Instruction s provided whenever possible in all classes to
meet unique needs.
